Hannastown Golf Club Where Past And Present Intertwine
Hannastown Golf Club was founded by Thomas Jamison, an Oakmont member. He lived in Greensburg and wanted a private course. The initial nine holes were built in 1919 by Emil “Dutch” Loeffler, the superintendent at Oakmont Country Club.
For 80 years, the club was a 9-hole facility. 1997, Hannastown added an additional 9 holes.
Expanding the Club
The original 9 was influenced by Loeffler’s experience at Oakmont, with fall-away greens, a long par 3 similar to #8 at Oakmont, and a final green tied into the practice putting green.
The new 9 and the old 9 had to be intermingled. The old 9 has old-style greens that are pure Poa annua, and the new 9 has USGA-spec greens with bentgrass.
The New 9
The new 9 has smaller greens that feature some interesting slopes and mounds in the center of the greens.
These greens tend to penalize you if you try to short-side yourself by creating difficult chips over the center mound to a green that slopes away. If you do not miss on the short side, you usually have an easier uphill chip.
The Course Today
The course is now 6,668 yards and plays to a par of 70. There are five par 3s and three par 5s. The course rating is 72.5, and the slope is 132 from the tips.

USGA RULES GOVERN PLAY EXCEPT AS AMENDED BY THE LOCAL RULES BELOW
- Cyclone fence is a boundary marker.
- Model Local Rule E-5 is in effect for casual play (Not Tournament Play).
- Model Local Rule F-5 is in effect for all play.
- Flower beds are no play zones.
- Penalty areas defined by yellow and red stakes.
- Local Rule for Red Penalty Areas “Equidistant to the other side of the hazard” is in effect on holes #4 and #5 only.
- Ball coming to rest in defined area behind No. 9 green is entitled to "free" relief.
- Ball coming to rest on the extension of No. 18 putting green must be played as it lies. If a practice hole interferes with line, then nearest point of relief no closer to the hole. No Penalty.
- Areas designated as wetlands (left of Hole # 3)
1. Do not retrieve ball.
2. Do not play from wetlands – no play zone.
3. Play as a red penalty area. - Soft Spikes Only
